Here We Go Again...

Ummm… I’m making a new tracker, tentatively named “Pulsar”.

It will be quite different from NTRQ, predominantly because I’m creating an audio engine that will run at 240hz (instead of 50/60hz for NTRQ).

It’s probably going to be more “hardcore” than NTRQ and probably aimed more at live work.

I’ve only paper sketches for the interface so far though I’ve got some stuff working in the engine already. I’ve rewrote everything I’ve done regarding pitch manipulation so that you can totally combine effects and they behave as you’d expect. Got manically fast (and smooth) pitch sweeping + arpeggio + sine/sawtooth-based vibrato all running simultaneously. When you start to explore extreme settings for effects, the combination of that and the 240hz speed make the NES sound like nothing you’ve heard before.

Ideas welcome :)

I’ll try to put some user interaction into the demo and put a ROM out to show you soon.

This is all beyond any dream I’ve ever had for NES hardware manipulation. When I perused, noobish enough for sure, the nesdev forums inquiring about the existence of a Nintendo Entertainment System hardware tracker, I was roundly flamed based on the “suitability” of things like Nerdtracker and Famitracker. You’d think, if anyone, nesdev forum users would have been open to the idea. Thank you, Neil. You’ve gone beyond dreams.
